Custom Sound System

Sound is one of the defining elements of Monroe.
Not just volume or power, but clarity, physicality, and control.

Our custom sound system was conceived as a full-body, immersive experience, designed to be felt as much as heard. The result is a room that translates equally well to high-energy dance nights, focused listening sessions, live performance, and private events that demand refinement and impact.

The System

The soundscape at Monroe was developed by a team of industry specialists led by Michael Lacina of JK Sound and Don Lynch of CAV Solutions, with key contributions from Mitra Gholami and Zachary Schultz.

The system is built around an array of d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers and subwoofers, deployed with precision to achieve uniform coverage, depth, and physical impact throughout the venue.

One of the most distinctive elements is a custom subwoofer tower positioned within the 13-foot passage between the front bar and the dance floor. With no viable location for traditional omni-subs on the main floor, the team engineered a cardioid bass solution that delivers immense low-frequency energy while tightly controlling spill into adjacent areas.

The tower houses two XSLi-GSUB subwoofers, stacked vertically with carefully calculated air gaps to maximize cardioid efficiency. This configuration allows the subs to keep pace with the main V10 speakers while preserving crowd flow and maintaining a focused, controlled low end across both sides of the room.

To extend this physical experience beyond the dance floor, subwoofers are integrated directly into the seating and booth areas, ensuring every table receives the same somatic impact as the main floor. Guests don’t just hear the music from their seats, they feel it. This design eliminates “dead zones” and creates a consistent, immersive experience throughout the venue.

Recognized by the Industry

Monroe’s sound system has been featured in leading professional audio and sound-system publications, recognized for both its technical ambition and its thoughtful, venue-specific execution. These write-ups highlight not only the equipment itself, but the intentional design philosophy behind the room.

For Private Events & Performances

For private clients, Monroe offers one of the most premium custom sound environments in San Francisco.

The system is equally suited for:

  • High-end DJ events and label showcases

  • Live music and intimate performances by major artists

  • Listening events and album playbacks

  • Theatrical productions and spoken-word performances

  • Weddings and private celebrations

  • Nightlife events where musical energy and physical engagement matter

Whether the goal is nuanced detail or sustained, room-filling momentum, Monroe provides a sound environment that keeps guests engaged, present, and connected to the music from every position in the room.

Audio Heat Map

Monroe’s custom-designed sound system allows us to sculpt energy throughout the room. Our acoustic heat mapping shows intentional high-impact zones for the dance floor and controlled conversational areas for lounges and bars. For private events, we can fully customize the energy: from immersive, full-venue intensity to multi-zone experiences that balance power and comfort.
